Should I have a Professional Patent Search done before filing a Provisional Patent Application (PPA)?

In most cases, filing a PPA is used to avoid making significant investments in patent protection of an idea before having some degree of confidence that the idea has commercial value. This knowledge takes time to develop, and there is a risk that you may substantially delay your priority date, so it is often recommended to file your initial application (PPA) and then use the next year before its expiry to do the necessary searches and research.
